Triumph Motorcycles is a British motorcycle brand that was established in 1902. The company was founded by Siegfried Bettmann and Maurice Schulte and was initially called Bettmann & Co. The first Triumph motorcycle was produced in 1902 and was powered by a 2.25 horsepower engine. In 1905, Triumph produced its first motorcycle completely in-house. It was powered by a 3-hp engine and had a top speed of 45 mph. Triumph has been known for its racing heritage since the early days of the company. In 1937, Triumph won the prestigious International Six Days Trial. The company continued to produce motorcycles throughout World War II and became one of the largest motorcycle manufacturers in the world by the 1950s. Today, Triumph Motorcycles Ltd is the largest UK-owned motorcycle manufacturer.
