Description
Daimler Company Limited was an independent British motor vehicle manufacturer founded in London by H. J. Lawson in 1896. The company set up its manufacturing base in Coventry and bought the right to use the Daimler name from Gottlieb Daimler and Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft of Cannstatt, Germany. After an early financial difficulty, the company was reorganized in 1904 and purchased by Birmingham Small Arms Company (BSA) in 1910. In 1933, BSA bought the Lanchester Motor Company and made it a subsidiary of the Daimler Company. Daimler-Benz was formed in 1926 by the merger of two pioneering German automobile companies, one founded by Karl Benz and the other by Gottlieb Daimler. The Mercedes-Benz brand’s origins lie in Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft’s 1901 Mercedes and Carl Benz’s 1886 Benz Patent-Motorwagen. Today, Mercedes-Benz is a division of Daimler AG.
